Government Underwriter Team Lead (Southeast)

CMG Home Loans is hiring a Government Underwriter (Team Lead) with their DE/Lapp/Sar FHA/VA designations. They will be responsible for assisting with the underwriting department staff and the daily operations according to company, secondary market investor, and government agency standards. This includes ensuring all income, assets, and credit documentation associated with the loan applications are accurate and complete, and the approval or denial of loan applications are based on compliance with underwriting standards and risk management factors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Assist the Underwriting Manager with the Underwriting Department staff and ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards, federal and agency standards and guidelines, as well as any applicable state-specific and or local regulations, ordinances, etc. on loan applications.
- Partner with the Underwriting Manager with the training and motivation of the staff.
- Assist with schedules and workflow.
- Assist with employees’ daily and weekly metrics.
- Stay abreast of current regulations and industry trends that affect compliance and decision-making.
- Ensure data entry and notes are kept up to date.
- Use expertise to help answer questions and resolve escalated issues from underwriting staff.
- Perform Underwriter duties as assigned.
UNDERWRITER DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Authorized to underwrite FHA & VA loan products.
- Authorized to underwrite conventional, jumbo and other manual underwrite loan products.
- Communicates regularly with Processors and Loan Officers regarding status of loans via current technology.
- Follows file and check orders as conditions are signed off and new information is received. Maintains file order integrity.
- Maintains current working knowledge on current products.
- Leadership with respect to direction of underwriting resources and credit policy execution within team.
- Maintains conversation log in BYTE to properly track the forward movement of the file.
- Assists with training needs of other mortgage positions.
- Ad hoc reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 5-7 years’ specific retail underwriting experience with all loan products.
- Must have current FHA/VA underwriting certification.
- Advanced knowledge of overall mortgage lending processes, including underwriting, funding, and loan processing.
- Advanced knowledge of valid documentation related to the processing consumer mortgage applications (e.g., tax returns, financial statements and records, verification of income and deposits, etc.).
- Advanced knowledge of underwriting and regulatory requirements; detailed knowledge of federal, state, and regulatory requirements/guidelines related to consumer mortgage lending and internal processes and controls.
- Demonstrated satisfactory knowledge of DU and LP input.
- Ability to properly interpret DU and LP, communicate and document their findings.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook systems.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, fluid environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Proven leadership skills with ability to motivate others.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This role operates in an ADA compliant office environment, utilizing typical office equipment and tasks including computer work. The position may involve partial stationary positions and moving throughout the day. Flexibility to work overtime to meet project deadlines is required.
Base Compensation Information: This role is currently allocated for candidates within geographic regions that do not currently require base wage disclosure. The compensation range for this position will be provided upon request. (Due to their geographic location, residents of the states of CA & CO, and for NY are excluded from this role at this time.) Factors that affect base salary may include Underwriting experience and designations, overall knowledge, number of years worked in mortgage industry, types of roles performed, computer skills, experience specific to working with mortgage lenders, and education.
